Where are you located?

At Whispering Winds in Spring Valley, Minnesota! (See the map.)

What dates are the next public events?

I do the public tours/hunts the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of months in the fall, spring, and summer. The dates in Fall 2022 are:

October 8
October 22
November 12
November 26

If those don’t work, you can always book a private hunt.

When can we do a private trip?

Let me know some times that work for you on the booking form, and I’ll let you know!

How do I pay?

Cash, please!

Do you have any discounts for guests at Whispering Winds?

If you stay at my Whispering Winds, you’ll get the tour of the fossil zoo for just $5.

And you’ll get the hunt, too for $20 off.

Do you hunt in any weather?

We don’t hunt in lightning or hard rain — but we do hunt if it’s overcast, or drizzling. (No refunds for no-shows.)

Do you do birthday parties?

Do we ever! Let me know you’re having a birthday party, and we can plan out how it can be one the birthday person will remember forever.

Can I keep the fossils I find?

They’re yours! (And if you don’t find one, you’ll get your money back.)

What time do the public events happen?

We meet at 1pm and tour the fossil zoo. After about 45 minutes, we’ll drive out to a nearby fossil-rich site, and hunt fossils for two hours. We finish around 4pm. (You can leave directly from the site.)

Can I leave early?

Absolutely.

What should I bring for fossil-hunting?

Long pants and a long-sleeve shirt. Good shoes for hiking. A snack, and some water. A sturdy bag to carry your fossils in.

Do you have any discounts for big groups?

Fossil hunting is a blast for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H clubs, disabilities classes, and groups of seniors.

Does your group have 8 people or more who are ages 7 and up? Take 20% off for each person, including any adult helpers!

Will we drive to the fossil site together?

No — that way, you can head back home directly from the site.

How can I understand more about the area?

If you haven’t watched the (short) documentary Mysteries of the Driftless, you’ll love it! Here’s a trailer, and here’s the real documentary.
